Here's where to eat now in Los Angeles. From high to low, these are the 10 restaurants I'm most excited about this month. This is not a list of the 10 newest places to open lately. Rather, a few of these spots are brand new. Some are just getting broken in and deserve another look. And one's pretty old but has a new chef. They're all fantastic.

Wise-asses take note: This is not an up-to-the-minute accounting of the 10 newest restaurants to open in L.A. this week. Rather, think of it this way: If you were going to take me out to dinner tonight, these are the 10 places I am wholeheartedly recommending right now.

Review: Son of a Gun, Los Angeles

“This is really good chicken. But I thought it was going to be a sandwich,” says The Blonde, looking confused but happy, with knife and fork in hand.

“That’s not the chicken,” I say. “The chicken hasn’t arrived yet. That’s the fried alligator.”

The Blonde’s eyes suddenly look bigger than usual. Her attempts to keep her smile from going crooked fall short.
